Urgent Care Facilities Give Tips to Make the Annual Turkey Trot Safe

If you want to make your Thanksgiving extra special this year, join the Annual Elk Grove Turkey Trot this coming November 24th, 2016. This annual race is put on to benefit Courage Run!–homes that rescue children from human trafficking.

Their tagline “Run…So They Don’t Have To” is an invitation for you to show your support. In fact, your simple act of joining the Turkey Trot can do a lot in securing the future of these children. This event is certified family-friendly, not only featuring a 5K and a 10K, but also a quarter-mile Kids’ Fun Run.

Don’t forget to pay attention to safety guidelines and practices so you’ll have not just a fun run, but also a safe one. Here are some running tips from a local East Sacramento urgent care to help you cross the finish line faster.

Wear the Right Shoes

More often than not, people pick running shoes based on style and design. Sure, it would be nice if your shoes look stylish as you make that 10K mark, but more than that, you need to feel comfortable.

Many running injuries stem from the fact that they are not wearing the proper size shoes, or the shoes are not comfortable. There should also be enough ankle support so that you minimize the risk of sprain.

Warm Up

Warming up before a jog or a run is important because it helps reduce your risk of injuries. Muscle cramps, ankle sprains, and other joint pains can be mitigated if your muscles are warm and loose. Jumping jacks, lunges, and stretching are all great ways to get your blood pumping and your muscles ready to go.

Stay Hydrated

Running will cause you to sweat a lot. In the process, you’re not only losing water through sweat, but also electrolytes. You need to make sure to replace the fluids lost during the run so that you don’t compromise your health and strength.

A properly organized fun run will have water stations along the course, but just in case, bring your own water bottle.  There should also be emergency personnel ready to provide you and the other participants with proper and immediate care in case of injuries. After being tended to with first aid remedies, it is advisable for you to visit a walk in clinic in East Sacramento, CA, such as the U.S. HealthWorks Medical Group, for a more comprehensive treatment.
